Apple announced a replacement to the iPod mini line today. The iPod nano. The iPod nano comes in 2GB and 4GB flavors and offers a smaller/sleeker package:

- 1000 songs in your pocket
- Color display, can support photos
- Click wheel navigation
- 80% smaller in volume than the original iPod. 1.5 ounces
- 1/2 the thickness of the iPod mini
- Supports the doc connector
- 14 hour rechargeable battery
- Flash memory instead of a hard drive
- New graphical clock, games, stopwatch, lap timer, screen lock
- White and Black models available.
- $199 and $249 for 2GB and 4GB models

The long expected Apple/Motorola Announce iTunes Phone:

As widely anticipated, Apple and Motorola finally announced the iTunes-capable phone that has been the subject of rumors and speculation for over a year.

Motorola and Apple today announced the availability of the world’s first mobile phone with iTunes, enabling music lovers to transfer up to 100 of their favorite songs from the iTunes jukebox on their Mac or PC to their mobile phone.

The new phone will be available in the U.S. through Cingular. Cingular has updated their website and provided pricing information on the new phone. The phone is available for $249.99 with a 2 year contract.

The phone features a color display for album art, dual built-in stereo speakers and stereo headphones. It supports music, audiobooks and Podcasts and syncs with iTunes. The phone pauses music automatically during incoming phone calls.

The Harry Potter iPod

Guess that iPod cobranding thing is really working out for Apple, since now they’re doing a Harry Potter iPod too. Besides the crest on the back, it’s more or less more of the same, being a tie-in for the exclusive they scored on all six Harry Potter audiobooks.

QuickTime 7.0.2 Released

Alongside the many other announcements today, Apple has also released a minor update to Quicktime 7. Quicktime 7.0.2 is now available in Software Update on Windows and Mac.

QuickTime 7.0.2 delivers numerous important bug fixes and compatibility enhancements. This update is highly recommended for all QuickTime 7 users.

Apple announced iTunes 5.0 today. The updated version of Apple’s popular jukebox software provides many long requested features. These include:

- Streamlined design
- Smart Shuffle
- Can organize playlists into folders
- Search bar
- Windows users can sync with Outlook and Outlook Express
- Parental controls for iTunes Music Store
- Album Reviews

iTunes 5 will be available today.
